Post # 6: Reflecting on Self-Care and the Never-Ending Glow Up Journey

August 31, 2024 · In: Faith, Personal Development, Self Care

Hi Glowupers!

I hope you’re all having an amazing Labor Day Weekend! I arrived at my sister’s house in Los Angeles yesterday since my son didn’t have school. We always have a blast when we’re together. I went to bed super early, like 8:30 p.m., and woke up at 4 a.m. with this urge to write.

As I sit here, I can’t help but reflect on my journey since I left Brazil in 2006. It’s been a wild ride, full of ups and downs, and it’s hard to believe how far I’ve come. My healing journey began in 2015, and although “healing” has become a bit of a buzzword, it’s exactly what I needed, even before I fully understood what I needed to heal from. Now, in 2024, nine years later, I see things so much clearer. My soul knew what it was craving, and looking back, I’m in awe of how close I’ve grown to God. Of course, this is just the beginning, but wow—what a transformation!

Back then, I was a completely different person, and it took a lot of trial and error (and plenty of setbacks) to get here. But the journey has been worth it. I’m still figuring out how to navigate this new life, especially when it comes to re-entering society after spending so much time in reflection and with God. But I believe that the same God who led me here will guide me to where I need to be next. I’ve come too far to turn back now.

I first thought about starting a blog in 2020, and I imagined it would be a totally different experience. Hahaha, if only I knew then what I know now! As I sit here in September 2024, finally writing my first legit blog posts, I’m struck by how persistence, faith, and self-care have shaped my path. It wasn’t easy—far from it—but here I am, four years later, finally feeling like I’m where I belong.

So, why am I sharing all of this? Because the Glow Up journey is ongoing. It’s full of twists and turns but also incredible moments of growth and self-discovery. At the heart of it all is the importance of self-care. I know that word gets thrown around a lot these days, but to me, self-care is about more than just pampering. It’s about treating yourself with kindness, love, patience, and confidence—just as a loving parent or God would treat you. It’s about being gentle with yourself, allowing yourself the space to grow, and feeling confident in who you are.

So yes, self-care is about letting God care for you, but it’s also about showing up for yourself with compassion in every moment. It’s about changing that critical voice in your head to one of encouragement and support. That’s the foundation of this blog—creating a space where we can all learn to care for ourselves better and embrace our inner confidence.

That’s all for today! Stay tuned for more reflections and tips on this incredible journey.

Take care, Glowupers!
